Spoken Poetry

                                                                      We Are More

"Define Canada you might say the home of the rocket or the great one. Who inspired little nines or ninety nines." Shane Koyczans poem "We Are More" is all about Canadians who try inspiring people. Some people would say that "What defines us is something as simple as please and thank you";Canadians are stereo typically known as being one of the nicest nations on earth. Shane is describing how Canada is more than just a friendly face but a "experiment going right for a change". "We are More" makes you feel empowered this whole poem is about empowerment making the country of Canada's population feel empowered to do amazing things.Shane is trying to portray a message that we Canadians "are millions upon millions of voices" and that we have so much to offer the world.

"The The Impotence of proofreading" is a funny but yet serious poem where Taylor Mali discusses the importance of proof reading your work. "Proofreading your peppers is of the the up most impotance" if you don't proof read you will end up with misspelled words grammatical errors etc and you will just end up looking stupid. People forgetting to proof read there work effects "manly manly students all over the word". Mali does a fantastic job at getting his serious message across well still having a funny, humorous atmosphere where people don't start nodding off and getting bored. Taylor Mali's mission is to portray the message that "proofreading your pepper is of the the up most impotance" and that people should be doing a better job at it.

"Shouldn't the children of country that is the wealthiest also be the children of the country that's healthiest"these words spoken by Taylor Mali could not be anymore true. Mali describes the importance of health education in a very serious way. "But don't let me start preaching" the United States percentage of obese people is completely unacceptable. The health of children in America is declining rapidly and it needs to be improved upon we need to start "thinking of health as a skill" a "skill that you practice. We need to lead by example we cant be stuffing unhealthy food down our throats then expect our children to be in shape. It's not easy though "because people stop listening when they think they know what you're going to say". By telling a children the obvious things to get in shape such as don't eat sugar or don't drink soda, eat more vegetables "especially the dark leafy ones" they know all of this just because their obese doesn't mean they're stupid it means they're lazy. Sometimes the children cant see far enough into the future to see that "healthy kids do better in school, have better jobs and live better lives". People get this image into their heads that staying relatively healthy is extremely hard and that if they don't look like a model they aren't healthy "but now you have got me preaching health is not a one semester class" being healthy takes time and you will get out of it what you put in. Parents should be involved as well because kids usually get lost and derail but we all know "good health starts at home" and kids can't do it alone.
